How to choose the right UW Partner to join with

By Scott McCaw, independent authorised UW Partner · Reviewed 8 October 2026

Your sponsor is the Partner who helps you join UW and usually supports you as you start. UW provides the official training, tools and payments; what sponsors add varies a lot. Choose someone who will name your mentor, help with your first appointments, answer honestly about fees and income, and fit your time and style. No sponsor can guarantee you'll earn.

Why does the choice of mentor matter?

The support you receive can vary between teams. Before joining, ask about your mentor's practical experience, the time they can give you and how they will help you get started and develop. A part-time Partner can be an excellent mentor: what matters is their availability, experience and commitment to supporting you.

Scott offers full-time help to Partners who join with him, alongside the support with your first 10 calls or customer conversations described below. Speak with Scott before joining about the help you need and how to arrange it.

In Scott's experience, the differences between teams often come down to how the mentor supports you. A mentor alone doesn't decide what you earn: your own effort and UW's terms matter too.

Questions about your mentor's time and experience

Who supports my first appointments?

When are you available?

What happens if you're busy?

What experience do you have helping new Partners?

What ongoing support will I receive?

Checklist: what to ask a possible sponsor

Who will my mentor be, by name, and how do I contact them?

Will you help me prepare for, or join, my first appointments?

How often is training or team help available, and when?

Can you explain UW's fees and how Partners are paid, using UW's own documents?

What support do I get after I've registered, not just before?

Will this fit around my job, family and the way I like to work?

What does UW provide for everyone?

UW provides official training, tools, registration, billing and all payments, whoever sponsors you.

What does Scott add?

For people who join with him, Scott offers a free starter pack once your registration is verified, smaller WhatsApp groups, a personalised starting plan, individual or group sales training, help with your first 10 calls or customer conversations, optional weekly Zoom meetings and monthly in-person meetings when scheduled. Where one is available, he can try to connect you with an experienced Partner near you.

He doesn't promise unlimited one-to-one coaching, leads or earnings.

Red flags to watch for

Pressure to sign up today, income promises, vague answers about fees, or leading with screenshots of earnings rather than UW's documents.

Scott's experience: Not leaning on your mentor once you've started can mean missing opportunities and learning the hard way. Pick someone you'll actually feel comfortable calling.
